Short-term goals

HOW TO STAY CONSISTENT IN ACHIEVING YOUR SHORT-TERM GOALS.

Staying consistent with your goals is one way to attain progress and success. Everybody says to be consistent not only in your goals but in everything you do. The question is what is the practical way to stay consistent in order to achieve your goals?

In this article, we are going to reveal practical and realistic ways to be consistent in achieving your short-term goals.

WHAT ARE SHORT-TERM GOALS?

Short-term goals are objectives and plans with a minimum time to accomplish them. Though every well good goal, whether short term, medium term, or long term has a time frame, short-term goals are achieved in a short duration of time or in the nearest future.

The time duration may be in weeks, months, or years depending on the individual and the goal. Consistency on short-term goals is a leading way to the actualization of our long-term goals.

HOW TO STAY CONSISTENT IN ACHIEVING YOUR SHORT-TERM GOALS.

1. CHOOSE A GOAL OR TARGET AND AIM FOR IT.

A lot of people have wishes, plans, and objectives they feel they need to accomplish but few people practically set a target goal to accomplish. Having wishes or plans can be in form of merely thinking about what you want to do, ruminating about it in your head without the necessary steps to accomplish them.

It may be making too many plans and thinking about them without execution. On the other hand, choosing a target goal, giving a good thought, and putting them on record e.g. writing down an execution plan is a way to stay consistent in attaining your short-term goal.

2. SET ACHIEVABLE AND MEASURABLE GOALS

There have been times that I have set goals in the long run, and completely forgot about them. This happens when you don’t set goals you can achieve within a period of time. You realized that you’ve fallen out of your goals.

Sincerely, anything is possible right, but if we are, to be honest with ourselves, everyone’s time preference is different, to some extent we all can measure what we can accomplish given our capabilities and resources available to us, with this you should set goals that you can measure and achieve within the duration we set.

3. TRACK PROGRESS AND ADJUST GOALS WHERE NEEDED.

Tracking your short-term goals will enable you to examine and make adjustments where necessary. Usually, when I set goals for the month, I already have an idea of what I wrote in my journal and what I want to accomplish.

By the middle of the month, I find time to check and track what I have accomplished so far and by the end of the month, I do a whole review of what has taken place so far. This helps me make progress, learn new habits, achieve them and prepare for the new month.

4. FIND A SUPPORT SYSTEM TO HELP YOU STAY ON TRACK

I understand that when you’re trying to create a path for yourself like setting and accomplishing goals, developing, and changing your life, you need to cut off some people, but no one is an island, we don’t have it all figured out. Even the best moments can become the loneliest that’s why you need to find someone that will be your support and hold you accountable.

Sometimes you don’t need to spill the tea about your goals especially if it does not directly involve helping you to accomplish them. Still, it is beneficial to have a support system to encourage and hold you up when you feel down.

REWARD YOURSELF FOR REACHING YOUR GOALS

I appreciate myself with kind words when all the time, I do more when I’m able to reach my goal, I write it in my journal and it has been life-changing, stirred me towards more positivity and self-love. So learn to reward yourself when you reach your target.

TAKE TIME FOR YOURSELF TO REFLECT AND RECHARGE.

I do this when I am overwhelmed or too tired to do anything. Sometimes I use a whole day to sleep, when I’m journaling, I reflect on myself and ask myself questions that will provoke thorough thinking. You may have a way or activities that work better for you. However, it is, do not forget to make time for yourself and your well-being.

EXAMPLES OF SHORT-TERM GOALS.

goal setting.
FINAL THOUGHTS.

Setting goals is a great process to give your life a sense of direction and purpose. I can attest from experience that goals can reshape and completely transform your life. Something you should keep in mind is not just setting and putting your goals on record, but you have to keep your goals in sight not out of sight. For out of sight is, out of mind. If you don’t keep your goals where you’d always get a reminder of what to do, chances are that you’ll not reach that goal.

What works really well for me is keeping a journal, recording my goals, plans, and thoughts helps me refer back when I feel like I’m missing something.

  1. I love your point about adjusting goals where needed! I think that’s where we trip up sometimes. Just because we set a goal, doesn’t mean it cant be a bit flexible! Circumstances and outside factors change that require us to be a little more flexible with our goals. Great reminder!
